What Are the Best Oils for Your Skin?

Did you know that not all face oils are created equal? The type of oil you use for your specific skin type makes all the difference in how your skin is going to look and feel!

WHAT OILS TO USE FOR SUMMER
During the summer months you want to protect and repair your skin from the sun. So a lighter oil underneath your sun-screen or foundation is great during the daytime, while a richer, regenerating oil is better for night-time. The use of sun-screen and makeup liquid or powder foundations tend to pull the moisture from the skin; therefore, it is important to clean your skin thoroughly at night and apply a richer oil to help your skin naturally rejuvenate during the night. If you tend towards dry skin, apply a hydrating mist like rosewater or cucumber water underneath the face oil and apply. Be sure to stay away from witch-hazel as that can really dry out your skin. On the other hand, if you have oily skin, use a toner and less oil on your skin.

MOISTURIZING OILS vs DRIER OILS
Plant oils are full of vitamins and healthy omegas, which improve elasticity and texture of the skin. Moisturizing oils like rosehip seed and Argan oils are rich in vitamin A, C & E that regenerate and hydrate the skin as well as excellent for repairing scarring and reducing hyper-pigmentation. Drier and lighter oils like jojoba, apricot kernel and hazelnut help balance and lower the oil production in your skin. They will provide light moisture without clogging your pores. Remember that oil is the most pure way to hydrate your skin. Face creams and lotions are made up from water and oil mixed with various fillers that are often carcinogenic for your skin. I believe that less is more. Keep it simple and know what you are putting on your skin and in your body.

ESSENTIAL OILS AND YOUR SKIN
Due to the tiny molecular structure of essential oils, they are the ingredients that really drive your product deeper into the layers of the skin, thus repairing your skin from the inside out. For summer, I love ingredients like rose and chamomile to soothe and protect the skin or refreshing essential oils like rosemary and lavender; that are naturally anti-bacterial, to clean and reduce oiliness in the skin. Sandalwood, jasmine, neroli are my favorite oils for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation. Also, the extra added benefit of using essential oils as part of your daily skin regiment is the effect they have on your mental and nervous system. They calm your mind and reduce stress that may have built up during the day.

HOW TO APPLY YOUR FACE OIL ON YOUR SKIN

Before applying your favorite face oil on your skin, take a deep breath and inhale those wonderful aromas into your lungs and let them fill up your body with relaxation and peace. Exhale and gently massage the oil into your skin for up to 60 seconds. I promise you will get into your bed feeling much more relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep.
